Switchbacks FC Bring More Than Just The Force On Star Wars Night
No matter which sport you're a fan of, you've probably experienced or heard of a Stars Wars night. Maybe you'll see some Stormtrooper helmets, the away team being introduced while "The Imperial March" plays in the background, but a lot of the times it's just a family fun night. However, one team had a different idea of how to bring the force to the soccer field and to a local cancer survivor foundation.
The Colorado Springs Switchbacks teamed up with the local Penrose-St. Francis Health Foundation, to ensure that their match against Swope Park Rangers would be a special on, by announcing a Stars War Night. With excitement buzzing, the Switchbacks visited Penrose-St. Francis Health Services the afternoon before the game to meet patients and associates, while bringing special guests that included Jordan Schweitzer and Karsten Hanlin were accompanied by members of the 501st Legion, the Rebel Legion, and the Mandalorian Mercs Costume Club.
On game day, the Switchbacks premiered their Chewbacca themed warm-up jerseys and wowed the early showing crowd who wanted to get in on the first free 500 sabers given away. These impressive warm-up jerseys were then auctioned off during the game with all proceeds going to the Penrose-St. Francis Health Foundation. With the stylish Wookiee fits and the exciting game, of course the auction closed with every jersey sold. Even more impressive, seven of the jerseys were sold at the maximum price of $300, totaling to $3,000 being donated to the Penrose-St. Francis Health Foundation.
A check will be presented to Penrose-St.Francis Health Foundation at halftime of the Switchbacks game on August 29th against Real Monarchs SLC. Showing that when it comes to helping the community, the Switchbacks believe, “Do. Or do not. There is no try.”
